Special Programs
Cancer Research Program
The Miami Cancer Center's comprehensive cancer program provides state of-the-art clinical trials to patients in a community setting. Available trials for breast, prostate, colon, lung, bladder, pancreas, lymphoma, and hematological primaries are included.
The Miami Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital will further its commitment to our research effort by offering patients more diverse clinical research studies by its affiliation with Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) and establishing an affiliation with the National Cancer Institute’s Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG). In accordance with regulations established by the Federal Food and Drug Administration, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews clinical research activities at Mercy Hospital in order to protect the rights of the patients who participate in clinical trials.
Rehabilitation Services - Lymphedema Program
The Kohly Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation at Mercy Hospital continues to expand its lymphedema program for patients suffering from primary and secondary lymphatic obstruction. Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT) combined with physical therapy work to reduce the size of the involved limb and help patients gain functional independence to lead more productive lives. The lymphedema program is highly acknowledged in the community, with a growing number of new patients needing services each year. The Kohly Center is a member of the National Lymphedema Network and hosts a lymphedema support group quarterly. A post-lymphedema management program is also available to assist in maintaining gains achieved in therapy and adequate lymphatic function to prevent re-accumulation of fluid.
