The American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) has named Mercy Hospital and Dr. Juan Carlos Fleites, MD, FACS, a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The Center of Excellence designation is given to surgical programs and surgeons that have demonstrated a track record of favorable outcomes.
With the exponential rise of bariatric surgeries, the ASBS Centers of Excellence program was established to assist patients in identifying bariatric surgery centers that are the most experienced with the lowest rates of complications.
Medical director Juan Carlos Fleites, MD, FACS and the Center’s expert team of specialists, provide a supportive, multi-disciplinary approach, so that our patients have the tools to be successful before and after surgery.
Surgical procedures performed by specially trained surgeons, Juan Carlos Fleites, MD, FACS, Moises Jacobs, MD, FACS and Eddie Gomez, MD, FACS include: the Laparoscopic adjustable band (Lap-Band), Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Roux-en Y and the Sleeve Gastrectomy. The Surgical Weight Loss Center at Mercy Hospital is currently one of the only facilities in the area that perform the Sleeve Gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve).
The Center’s Bariatric Team, which is comprised of a dedicated team of surgeons, psychiatrists, registered dieticians, registered nurses, licensed physical therapists, bariatric coordinator and other healthcare professionals, work together to ensure that all the patient’s medical needs are met.
The Bariatric Team at Mercy Hospital understands that obesity is a disease and makes it their goal to assist those who are afflicted with this epidemic.
