Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Care department makes it a point to send a member of its staff to visit each new patient and explain to them the many services provided. After the initial visit, the patient is visited periodically unless the patient wishes otherwise.

The Mercy Hospital Chapel is open and welcomes anyone who seeks the comfort of prayer or a quiet moment of meditation. Located on the second floor of the North Wing, the Chapel is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. The closed circuit television channel 3 provides religious programming throughout the day, including coverage of the Holy Mass which is celebrated each day in the Chapel. For those interested in attending mass, the services are held at the following times:

Sunday - Friday   English 8:30 a.m. and Spanish 12:00 noon
Saturday English 8:30 a.m. and Spanish 5:00 p.m.

Patients who are interested in receiving the Holy Communion in their room are given the opportunity to do so after the morning Mass as well as after 4:00 p.m. If a patient would like to receive the sacrament, he or she should advise the nurse and their name will be placed on the list. Mercy’s Pastoral Care Department also offers patients the Sacrament of the Sick and Reconciliation both available by requesting a visit from a priest. For patients of other religious denominations, the Pastoral Care Department will be glad to notify his/her Pastor, Minister or Rabbi.
