Inpatient Rehabilitation

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility at Mercy Hospital provides a complete continuum of rehabilitation services and medical management for patients requiring intense rehabilitation after experiencing medical conditions such as a stroke, joint repair or replacement, amputation, brain, nervous system or muscular disorders. Mercy’s Rehabilitation program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility incorporates a team approach in assessing the patient’s ability to function independently and return to his/her daily activities. The team then formulates a plan of care that is individualized based on the need of the patient.

The unit is staffed by highly trained professionals specializing in rehabilitation. The team is composed of physiatrists, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and neuropsychologists. They also provide specialty services for wound care, lymphedema and dysphagia.

Rehabilitation services provided by the acute hospital-based Impatient Rehabilitation Facility include, but are not limited to, physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. The rehabilitation team provides assessment, monitoring and discharge recommendations for each patient based the patient’s needs. The goal of rehabilitative services is to improve the patient’s quality of life by promoting function and independence.
